Today’s art work is a little experimental. And, as an experiment, well, let’s just say it’s still an experiment.
I call this Ick. It’s a play on ick as in “icky”, “ick” the disease fish get, “Ichthys” as in Greek for “fish”, and “Icarus”
I challenged my sculpture students to make installations for a locker, and I figured it was such a good challenge I should try it myself. The problem is, everytime I try to set it up in the locker, I manage to pull one of the wires off, and then I have to take it back out to solder the wire back on. But it works fine on the table. It’s basically the modified guts of one of those singing fish things- remember those? Well, this one flaps the doll’s wings, and then the two fish parts flop around and make a horribly loud clicking noise. It’s wonderfully disturbing! And as a bonus it’s set off by a motion sensor!
The camera I was using (not mine) does not seem to take very good movies (or, at least, doesn’t translate them well to my computer), so this is all there is for today (this was a minute long when I shot it, honest!). And I took it the video sideways (oops). I’ll make another video of it tomorrow with sound with my camera so you can get the full effect.
